Fontana di Trevi is nowadays the most visited among Roman hydraulic works. In the XVIII and at the beginning of the following century, though, the ancient aqueducts were favoured as well. The most widely read travel books of that time, together with the works of such artists as Thomas Jones, Philipp Hackert, Carlo Labruzzi, Giovanni Volpato and, above all, Piranesi bear witness of their popularity. The ancient Roman aqueducts have now fallen off all inclusive tours. And this is why tourists should all the more toss a coin into Fontana di Trevi.
