The project was included in a whole series of hydraulic works, bound to prevent the located along the river Tanaro towns inundation, planned after the 1994 Tanaro river flood.
It envisaged the river-bed reshaping and a levee bank about 1000 m long construction on the upper course of the Tanaro, where it reaches the town of Nucetto, one of the by the 1994 flood most affected town. A careful planning was managed to safeguard a holm of crucial interest for the small town, pressed between the mountainside and the river. Started in 1997, the project was ready to be put out for tender in 1998. Delivered within the contract time limit, the works were completed in 1999 and tested the following year.
The 2000 flood which affected the river Tanaro area was stemmed by the newly constructed embankments.
