The Alifano valley irrigation scheme, in Caserta district, (photo 1), encompasses an area of 5.000 Ha. Parcelled out in seven lots, the long ago realized scheme envisaged the diversion of 3,62 m3/s from the river Volturno by a diversion weir (107 m a.s.l. - Photo 2) which fills the on the left bank of the river Volturno open canal. It is this 3,1 km long canal that feeds all seven irrigation lots spreading over 750 Ha, to the right bank, and 4500 Ha, to the left bank. Surge works have also been necessary to feed the on the hillside 800 Ha cultivated area.
Ing. L. de Vito provided both the weir feasibility plan (1956) and work supervision (Photo 3), along with the irrigation scheme feasibility design.
