Geared towards the diversion and storage of an excess 12 m3/s discharge released from the upstream hydroelectric plants (photo 3), the designed Simeri water works are situated at and altitude of 152 m a.s.l.
The project envisaged a whole range of hydraulic constructions: a mitersill concrete weir, intake works on the river right bank and conduction canals, a 320 m3 reservoir and an hydraulic operated restitution work (photos 2, 4).
A fully fledged hydraulic design for the 70 Ha area on the river left bank was also delivered. Under this section of the project, provision was made for the construction of a doubled cement waterproof diaphragm extending underground 4 to 20 m in depth.
CESECO provided detailed design services for the whole work including topographical surveys, environmental impact analysis and geotechnical investigations and was responsible for the preparation of tender documents, together with the Consorzio. Started in 2004, the works are currently in progress (photo 5).
