Operated by four regulation sluices, the Volturno weir diverts 3,62 m3/s bound for Alifana plain irrigation (107 m. a.s.l. - photo 1). The 3,1 km. long weir originates from the intake work on the left bank of the river and comprises surge works as well. Through the weir 750 Ha on the right bank and 4,500 Ha on the left bank are fed, 800 Ha of which on the adjoining hill slopes.
Prof. L. de Vito, together with a team of professionals, provided both the weir detailed design, the work supervision and the 7 lots irrigation scheme (1956), 5 in Alifana Plain and 2 in Presenzano plain.
