Europe main pipeline, the Sinni-Salento Aqueduct originates from Mount Cotugno reservoir on Sinni river. 180 km long, it skims the whole Ionian region before reaching Salento plateau (Photo 1). The aqueduct basically consists of two side by side placed pipes of DN 3000 mm which provide a 25 m3/s discharge.
Studio de Vito and CESECO INTERNATIONAL provided the first lot work supervision, from the dam to Agri river (Photos 2, 3), with Ente di Irrigazione of Bari as client.
The second part of the work was delivered in 1980-89 with Consorzio di Bonifica of Nardò as client. It envisaged the feasibility study design of the whole Sinni irrigation scheme for Salento region (150,000 Ha; estimated budget:1,500 millions euro) and two lots of the IV reach of Sinni pipeline (Photos 4, 5) together with Monteparano hydraulic reservoir and a supply improvement project with water pipe-line conduction from Chidro spring.
