Agri-Sauro water supply system completed the hydraulic scheme of Mount Cotugno reservoir (500 x 106 m3). It is from this reservoir that the Sinni-Salento Aqueduct originates (see Card n. 2), which, running along the Ionian coastal line, reaches Salento plateau.
The project envisaged the construction of two diversion weirs on Agri (Photo 2) and Sauro rivers, open canals, tunnels and a pipe siphon bound to divert a 18 m3/s and a 12 m3/s maximum discharges respectively to the above mentioned reservoir.
More in detail, 59 x106m3 are diverted through Sauro weir (L=160 m; 267 m a.s.l.) to Sauro-Agri tunnel (DN 3,50 m; 6,645 m). This discharge then flows into the adjoining Agri valley, crossed by Agri siphon (DN 2600 mm; L= 1,805 m - Photo 5), which joins the junction tank where 74 x106m3 , diverted through Agri weir (L=200 m; 266,3 m a.s.l.- Photo 2), are conveyed. The Agri-Sinni tunnel (DN 4,35 m; L=6,675 m - Photo 3), which pours into the above mentioned mount Cotugno reservoir, originates from the junction tank.
